Episode 16 of The Common Man Chronicles, “Fine Dining, Common Problems,” proves that no matter how fancy the setting, coffee always finds its way to the table.

It begins with Crimson Belle’s invitation — a glittering night out in a high-end restaurant with chandeliers, white linens, and wine poured into crystal glasses. Belle is right at home, poised and graceful, swirling her drink like she was born for the spotlight. The Common Man, meanwhile, steps in with his crooked bowtie, his dented thermos tucked under his arm like a date of its own.

The waiter presents menus full of French words and flourishes, and Belle nods politely at talk of truffle risotto and Bordeaux pairings. The Common Man squints at the page, unimpressed. “Got anything that pairs with black coffee?” he deadpans. Diners nearby stop mid-bite. Belle tilts her head, hiding a smile behind her glass.

Then, with quiet certainty, he sets his thermos on the pristine white tablecloth. Steam rises as he pours into his rugged metal mug, the bold scent of coffee filling the room. Gasps ripple through the restaurant, but Belle just leans in with that knowing smile. “That’s… bold,” she says. “Coffee’s the only pairing I trust,” he answers.

They lock eyes across the table. She sips her wine with elegance, he gulps his coffee with grit. The waiter hovers in disbelief as fine china clinks against dented steel in a toast.

“Nothing pairs better than coffee,” he declares.
